The Battlefield of Ideas

In 2010, Time Magazine published 100 Ideas that Changed the World. Among history’s greatest ideas were the Big Bang Theory and Einstein’s theory of relativity. It was written, “Ideas are funny things, invisible and weightless, they have no material substance, yet they have the power to change the course of history…human history is in essence a history of ideas.”

Soviet dictator, Joseph Stalin, understood the power of ideas saying, “ideas are more powerful than guns; we do not let our enemies have guns, why would we let them have ideas?” Ideas are powerful because they are incarnational; they inhabit the hearts and minds of man.

In recent months, American’s have learned there are certain ideas a Black person is not permitted to hold. Consider Winsome Sears, a Black woman who, along with her father, immigrated to this country from Jamaica at the age of six. Her father arrived here with only $1.75 and took any job he could find. Before Sears became a citizen, she enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps. She served this nation honorably for three years and later went on to earn undergraduate and master’s degrees. Sears and her husband raised three children and own an appliance and plumbing repair store in Virginia. America gave Sears what she calls a “second chance at life.”

On November 2, 2021, Sears made history, becoming the first black female elected to state-wide office in Virginia. In her victory speech, Sears said, “…this country has done so much for me, I was willing to die for this country.” She went on to say, “I tell you what you are looking at is the American Dream.”

When Sears was inaugurated as Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor on January 15, 2022, she identified with sentiments expressed by Senator Barack Obama the historic evening he was elected president: “If there is anyone out there who doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time…tonight is your answer”.

Many American’s would consider Sears a success story, an example of what a person can accomplish if they work hard, but they would be wrong. Sears cannot be considered a success and it is not because of her race, or her gender. Sears is a Republican and for African American elites, that is the unforgivable sin.

On November 5, 2021, Michael Eric Dyson, appeared on Reidout, a T.V program airing on MSNBC. Dyson, a professor at Vanderbilt University and self-appointed member of the Democrat Thought Police, compared Sears to a black puppet of white ventriloquists, calling her “…a Black face speaking on behalf of White supremacists…”. Her crime? Sears has embraced what Dyson calls “White ideas”.

Dyson didn’t define “White ideas”, or how they’re different from “Black ideas”, but his point was clear: Black people must stick to Black ideas! Seth Dillon, of The Babylon Bee reacted saying, “Leftists are intellectual slave owners who become enraged whenever a black man (or woman) escapes and begins to think freely.” Journalist Glenn Greenwald added, “The message could not be clearer: People of color are duty bound to recite liberal orthodoxy and pledge loyalty to the DNC…”

Harsh consequences await Blacks who threaten to break with Democrat ranks. In 2020, candidate Joe Biden race-shamed a predominately Black radio audience saying, if you support President Donald Trump “you ain’t black”. When Black attorney and conservative talk show host Larry Elder opposed Democrat Gavin Newsom in the California Governor’s recall election, the L.A. Times referred to Elder as the “The Black face of white supremacy”. Blacks who dissent from the Democrat party line can expect to be censored, cancelled, shunned, or shamed.

Among Democrats, Sears is now considered dangerous, a person who betrayed the Party. Sears is threatening because she holds to the color-blind idea, “…that all men are created equal (and) are endowed by their Creator with inalienable Rights (including) Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. These once self-evident truths are under assault from Secular Leftists who oppose Americas founding idea. Rival ideas now compete for cultural, political and spiritual dominance.

Sears understands that on the battlefield of ideas, victory requires moving toward the sound of the guns.
